Breanna supports and facilitates the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy, alongside the relevant boards and committees, to embed the strategy within the Institute of Zoology.

During her BSc in Environmental Science and Anthropology in Oregon, Breanna started EDI and health and safety trainings in employment to educate and support other students. Whilst studying for her MSc in Land and Ecological Restoration in Cornwall, Breanna co-founded the first SER Student Association in the UK and incorporated environmental justice education into numerous projects, including green space related gender health disparities, accessibility and wilderness culture, and invasion biology and immigration rhetoric. Working with South West Lakes Trust, she researched social perceptions of biosecurity to address invasive non-native species and disease transmission in freshwater ecosystems during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Breanna has held roles as a Science Technician with Eden Project Learning and as a Research Assistant for the ReCon Soil Project. She is currently acting as the Co-Chair for the Society for Ecological Restoration EDI Committee.

Breanna supports the Science Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy, as well as providing Mental Health Frist Aid and safeguarding support within the Institute of Zoology. She also provides support for the ZSL Ethics Committees and IoZ’s Independent Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB). Through public engagement activities, Breanna aims to facilitate equitable opportunities for younger generations and diverse audiences to learn about and engage with science, research, and careers in academia while also considering the links between EDI and the environmental sector.
