ZSL's CEO Matthew Gould: “ZSL has been working to protect nature in Chagos for decades. The Chagos Archipelago is one of the most important and pristine marine environments in the world, and we need to look after it. So ZSL welcomes the commitment to establish a Marine Protected Area under Mauritian sovereignty, and the focus in the agreement on the vital importance of protecting these waters.
"The signing of the agreement between the UK and Mauritius is an important milestone for the Chaos Archipelago. We look forward to building on existing collaborations and developing new partnerships to support the conservation of this exceptional ecosystem, and to contributing scientific expertise to the efforts to protect it for generations."
