AFRICAN FOREST ELEPHANTS NEED YOUR HELP

African forest elephant populations have plummeted by over 86% over a period of 31 years, largely as a result of unprecedented levels of poaching for the illegal ivory trade. They now inhabit just 25% of their historic range, with the remaining elephants facing considerable pressure.

The smaller cousins of African savanna elephants, forest elephants play a vital role in maintaining biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, as they eat and disperse the seeds of many important tree species. This forest-dwelling species is smaller than its savanna relative, and despite being more endangered, is less studied due to its elusive nature and dense forest habitat.

ZSL is one of the few conservation organisations working around the world to protect all three species of elephants – Asian elephants, African savanna elephants and African forest elephants. Our work protecting forest elephants is focussed in the Dja Biosphere Reserve in Cameroon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to an important population of the forest elephant.

But we urgently need your help to continue this vital work. By giving a one-off or regular donation to our conservation work, you can help us take practical action to protect elephants around the world, as well as supporting countless other threatened species. Please donate to support wildlife today.

WHY SUPPORT ZSL?

ZSL is an international conservation charity driven by science, working to restore wildlife in the UK and around the world. We’re a powerful movement of conservationists from different countries and disciplines, working together to save animals on the brink of extinction and those who could be next.

We have a unique insight and evidence-based approach, made possible through a powerful combination of our world-leading scientific research and conservation work in over 50 countries, supported by our conservation Zoos.

And we have a proven track record of delivering sustainable solutions that really work - for wildlife and people. We've saved Extinct-in-the-Wild species, helped to double tiger numbers in Nepal and India, restored vital wildlife habitats and are disrupting the illegal wildlife trade.

Please help us by donating, and join the fight to save our natural world.
