At ZSL, we are working on the frontline of extinction by caring for 21 Extinct in the Wild species.
Extinct in the Wild means that animals are no longer found in their native habitat – their home.
The Living Planet Index shows an average 73% decline in monitored wildlife populations between 1970 and 2020. With many of these species having been lost through human impact, their recovery must now be secured by us.
Their survival now rests entirely in the hands of organisations, like ZSL, as we have the power to change their trajectory, but we cannot do it alone. With your support, we can protect these species through expertly managed breeding programmes in our conservation zoos to re-build fragile populations and return them to the places they belong. From the Mexican pupfish to the soaring Sihek, these species are on the brink of being lost forever and we must act to make them wild again.
Together, we can rewrite their story.
