1.0 General School Visits

Bookings available for UK and international schools, exclusively Mon-Fri during UK school term time only. If your class is visiting outside of UK term time you may be eligible to book with our groups discount. Visit www.zsl.org/groups for more information.

Prices are for both ZSL London Zoo & ZSL Whipsnade Zoo unless otherwise stated.

Bookings must be made in advance for classes to be eligible for the discounted rates.

Payment should be made at least two weeks in advance of your visit and can be made by card, cheque, or BACS. If paying on the day, payment can be made by card, cheque, or cash at the zoo entrance. If payment is not received by the date of your visit, or paid on the day, an invoice with a £25 administrative fee will be generated and sent to the school. Education groups must make a single payment for their visit. When a school has multiple visit dates, payment will be taken on the date of the last visit, or a single invoice raised for all visits.

ZSL reserves the right to charge a £25 administrative fee if a school:

  • If payment is not received by the date of visit, or paid on the day, an invoice with a £25 administrative fee will be raised.
  • Alters the date of an education session within two weeks of their visit, charged per session.
  • Cancels an education session within two weeks of their visit, charged per session.
  • Cancels a self-guided visit within two weeks of their visit.
  • Does not show for their education session.

Education prices cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, promotion, discounts or third party payment methods. Membership cards can be used, but child members will not count towards the free adult ratio for supervision purposes.

Supervision

To ensure adequate supervision for schools groups, ZSL requires 1 free adult per 6 primary students or 10 secondary/Post-16/higher education students. These required adults receive free admission. Any accompanying adults above the free ratio will be charged the Education Adult rate of £13.25. Carers for students with additional needs are admitted free of charge.

As a condition of the reduced entry costs for schools, teachers and accompanying adults must supervise their groups as all times during their visit. A list of behaviour guidelines is available online for teachers. Any failure to follow these guidelines can result in a group being asked to leave the zoo and school management being contacted. These guidelines can be found at:

If it is found that a school is not supervising their students, they could have their free and reduced adult education rates retracted and asked to pay full admission prices for all adults.

Adults leading school groups are expected to follow the supervision guidelines and behaviour expectations set by the Zoological Society of London.

Teacher Pre-visit

For every class booked in to visit the Zoo, we allow one free pre-visit for the teacher.  If your booking is for multiple classes, we allow one free pre-visit for each class as part of the booking. Teachers must have a confirmed booking to come for a free pre-visit.

To come for a pre-visit, simply bring your confirmation of booking to the main admissions window.

2.0 Education sessions

  • Education sessions cost £1.50 per pupil per session at ZSL London Zoo.
  • Education sessions are free at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo from 1 September to the end of February and cost £1.50 per pupil per session all other times of the year.
  • The Phobias session for A-level students costs an extra £125 fee in addition to entry and education session rates.
  • A minimum payment of £22.50 (15 pupils) applies for the education sessions.
  • Sessions have a maximum number of pupils allowed due to capacity of learning spaces and health and safety requirements. The capacity for each is listed on the session’s web page.

3.0 Booked Lunches (London only)

  • Lunch bookings available for UK and international schools, exclusively Monday-Friday during UK school term time at London Zoo only.
  • Bookings must be made and paid for (credit card only) at the time of booking through the Supporter Services team. Education lunch bookings must be made at least three business days in advance to allow time for product to be ordered and prepared. No education lunches bookings will be taken within three days of a school’s date of visit.
  • No refunds or changes to bookings for education lunches will be given. This includes schools wanting to amend their existing paid education lunches booking or who bring fewer students on the day of their visit.
  • ZSL has done its best to cater for a variety of dietary options for a range of individual needs.  A ‘meat’ and ‘vegetarian’ option are available, but are not dairy free. A third option is available that is vegetarian and dairy free. Gluten free cannot be guaranteed. Meals do not contain nuts, but are made in a kitchen that contains nuts.
  • If a school has an education lunch room booking, these education lunches will be delivered in spaces that will potentially be used by other groups. We cannot control exposure that an individual with allergies will have to foods such as nuts etc. If a student has severe allergies, the teacher will need to make alternative arrangements for their lunch space.
  • If a school does not have an education lunch room booking, they will need to pick up their pre-booked, paid lunches up from the Beach Hut located by the Penguin Beach exhibit.

4.0 Vehicles

LONDON

From 23 October 2017, ZSL London Zoo’s car park will be reduced in size while essential Thames Water and HS2 works take place. There will be very limited coach parking facilities during this period, with the spaces we do have allocatedon a first come, first served basis. Any additional coaches will be able to drop off only and will need to then park off site.

ZSL is working to maximise use of the available space as we know coaches are important for our schools and group visitors. In the meantime, the latest coach parking information for London is available from Transport for London at https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/coach-drivers/.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

Did you know that ZSL London Zoo is easily accessible by public transport?

  • Camden Town underground station is only a short walk away, with Regent’s Park tube also within walking distance (c.20mins through the park).
  • Alternatively, buses C2 (from Victoria via Oxford Circus and Great Portland Street) and 274 (via Marble Arch/Baker Street) stop near the zoo regularly.
  • Find out the closest tube station and bus stops here or plan your journey at https://tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey/.

WHIPSNADE

  • Parking in the external car park at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is free of charge for minibuses and coaches of schools visiting the zoo. Minibuses are permitted into ZSL Whipsnade Zoo with a charge (maximum 16 seats).

  • A test call must be booked at the time of booking your session (within the date and time slots available). This test call must be at least one week before your digital outreach session. The test call enables us to check that Skype is not blocked at your school, that the connection is strong enough to run the session and gives us an opportunity to talk through the session with the class teacher. If you have not set up a test call please immediately contact digitaloutreach@zsl.org to arrange this.
  • Payment for a digital outreach session visit must be made at least two weeks in advance of the session and can be made by credit card, cheque or BACs via our Supporter Services team on 0344 967 0831. If payment has not been made by the time of the digital outreach session then ZSL reserves the right to cancel your session. If we proceed with the session you will be invoiced, and an additional administration fee of £25 may be charged.
  • Your Skype name for the session must be provided at the time of booking.
  • Digital outreach prices cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, promotion, discount, or third party payment methods. Membership cards cannot be used.
  • If you amend or cancel your booking, ZSL reserves the right to charge an administration fee of £25.

No refunds will be given for schools who:

  • are not able to participate in the session because they are not online and/or signed into Skype for their session at the time of the booked slot

  • did not book a test call, or failed to participate in the booked test call

  • ‘ZSL in the Classroom’ sessions can be stand-alone (not linked to a zoo visit) or linked to a zoo visit as part of a booking.
  • Each session is designed for a maximum of 35 children per session. This is to enable student engagement during the session. Should you wish to run a session for a larger group or if you have any additional needs or requirements, please contact digitaloutreach@zsl.org and we can discuss your needs further.
