Fat and Fur half term
16 - 24 Feb 2013 – All Day
Get to know your cold weather creatures at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo this half term!
Ever wondered how red pandas beat the winter weather in the chilly Himalayas, or how a wolverine’s large furry paws act as snowshoes? Find out at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo’s Fat and Fur half term.
Interactive talks will be celebrating some of the Zoo’s cold weather creatures from Saturday 16 February to Sunday 24 February. It’s snow joke when we say that some of our animals actually prefer freezing temperatures! Learn how the red panda beats the winter weather in the chilly Himalayas, discover what ZSL is doing to give Amur tigers a helping hand or watch our wondrous wolverines Puff and Pige tuck into an icy treat.
Daily Sealion Splash and Birds of the World demonstrations will also be back in full swing, and storytellers will be on hand to take little ones on a journey into the world of their favourite animals in both the Discovery Centre activity room and the Zoo’s brand new Mongolian yurt.
Situated in Whipsnade’s Passage Through Asia drive-through, visitors can stop off at our brand new Mongolian yurt at 12.15pm and 2.15pm daily to hear stories about animals from the plains of Asia after seeing some of them, including Pere David’s deer and Bactrian camels, for themselves.
There’s more indoor fun to be had in the Zoo’s brand new indoor play centre, Hullabazoo, which is open all week giving children the chance to climb like an insect or slide down the ice like a penguin - having fun while mimicking their favourite animals.
