Humans on display at ZSL London Zoo
Sunday 24 May 2009
For one weekend only, human beings were the newest exhibit at ZSL London Zoo.
Billed as 'the world’s most destructive animal' humans made their home in a the special 'Room with a Zoo' display.
Kitted out with full furnishings and complete with an outdoor area, visitors were able to see the humans as they enjoyed their daily enrichment activities and feeding time. The human was fed a balanced diet as designed by our Zoo-tritionists, and will received regular enrichment which kept them both mentally and physically stimulated.
Room with a Zoo was a custom built enclosure, made entirely from sustainable wood and clear Perspex so that visitors had an unobstructed view of the inhabitant. Designed to resemble a human’s natural habitat as closely as possible, the exhibit gave visitors the opportunity to learn more about the effect humans are having on the world around them.
Keen visitors were also able to track the human’s experience by following ‘roomwithazoo’ on Twitter, which the Room with a Zoo resident was updating from inside the enclosure.
