More than 40,000 species are at risk of extinction.

We can, and will, find the solutions to restore the wonder and diversity of life on Earth, but we must act now.

As a charity, we rely on donations to help us bring unique wildlife back from the brink of extinction, through science-led conservation, alongside communities around the world.

From the world’s most trafficked wild mammal, the pangolin, to the pygmy three-toed sloth dying out as their habitat is destroyed, and so many more species, often overlooked but at risk of disappearing forever.

You can have a big impact with a monthly donation.

  • £5 a month for a year could cover the cost of powering a camera trap, to monitor rare species and ensure they are effectively protected.
  • £10 a month for a year could help towards the cost of kitting out our research labs with the specialist equipment that our scientists need to investigate wildlife diseases.
  • £15 a month for a year could buy equipment for our wildlife vets, working to save endangered animals in the UK and around the world.

It’s easy to set up your Back from the Brink donation, and you can change or cancel at any time.

Each month we’ll show you how your donations are helping.

  • Meet our Scientists, Vets, Keepers and Conservationists in behind-the-scenes videos (like this one ) showing how we’re working to save wildlife, with a different species featured each month.
  • Read interviews and stories (like this) from our conservation teams in the field.
  • Hear about amazing work with our Conservation Hero of the Month feature or catch a glimpse of rare animals in the wild with our Spotted feature.
  • Learn about the animals you know and love, as well as some you may not have heard of yet…

200 years of conservation

We’re ZSL (Zoological Society of London), conservationists for the living world helping people and wildlife live better together. As the original science-led conservation organisation, we’re driving forward a journey of recovery for the planet, to restore the wonder and diversity of life everywhere.

In 2026 ZSL will be 200 years old, marking two centuries of discovery, pioneering, inspiring and delighting through science, conservation and our two Zoos.

We prioritise bringing the most threatened species back from extinction. We will achieve this through wildlife and habitat recovery programmes, by influencing policy, convening partners, championing their cause through our Zoos and providing tools, training and methods, all underpinned by our science.

The proceeds from your regular donation are not restricted to conservation of specific species, so you can be sure your donation is going to where the funding is most needed. We are very careful about how we spend money to ensure the best possible outcome for wildlife.
