Adventurers searching for a wild summer experience should look no further than ZSL Whipsnade Zoo as it debuts the brand new Bear Grylls Wild Survival Academy this summer.

From 29 July to 3 September, visitors to the UK’s largest Zoo will become real wildlife explorers and can put their Bear Grylls-inspired survival skills to the test with a host of invigorating challenges and exciting activities.

The interactive experience promises to be the wildest event of the summer with visitors taking part in a thrilling assault course, learning how to build shelters and testing their knowledge in a wildlife ID quiz.

Intrepid adventurers can also try a selection of wild foods, including fruit, herbs and even mealworms, to gain a sense of how foraging for sustainable and nutritional food sources in the wild could be crucial to survival.

Budding conservationists and youngsters aspiring to be the next Bear Grylls can learn how to track and study animal behaviour, just like ZSL’s very own conservationists, at the Observation Station.

A number of fascinating live talks and shows from Bear Grylls Survival Academy instructors will take place daily for visitors to find out how animals, and humans, can survive in the harshest conditions in the wild – with live challenges for the most brazen Zoo guests to get involved in.

Victoria Sage, Events Manager at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, said: “There are a whole host of fun and interactive activities for visitors to get stuck into this summer at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, from learning how to tie life-saving knots and camouflaging yourself to foraging for bugs.

“The skills and techniques visitors will try at this event are the same as those used by Bear Grylls out in the wild.

“To be the first place in the UK to host the Bear Grylls Wild Survival Academy experience for the five-week summer holidays is hugely exciting, and we’re sure visitors will love it.

“What’s more, the whole event is included in the standard Zoo entry ticket price!”

If you think you have what it takes to survive in the wild why not put a visit to the Bear Grylls Wild Survival Academy at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo on the top of your summer to-do list?
