World Pangolin Day

What better way to spend the weekend after Valentine’s Day than by falling in love with pangolins?

Pangolins are a little-known group of species that are as charismatic as they are scaly; this World Pangolin Day come and visit our stall at London Zoo to find out about these fascinating creatures.

Pangolins are the world’s only scaly mammals and are so elusive in the wild that there are many things that ecologists are only just beginning to learn about them.  Sadly, one of the things we do know is that all eight species of pangolin are under threat, with individuals taken from the wild to be sold into the illegal wildlife trade.  Recent estimates suggest that more than 500,000 pangolins were confiscated from the illegal wildlife trade between 2016 and 2019, leading pangolins to be dubbed the world’s most illegally trafficked wild mammal.
