What they look like

Covered in brown feathers with purple iridescence, hammerkops have a long pointed bill, with stork-like legs and partially webbed feet.

Animal facts

  • Nests can be 6ft high and wide and weigh as much as an adult human.

Frogs, fish and invertebrates.

Fresh water lakes, ponds, swamps and marshes.
