In this month's Wild Science we meet a team of ZSL scientists who essentially act as the CSI of the sea. It is their job to forensically investigate any mysterious strandings of whales, dolphins and porpoises around the UK.
The Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme has been investigating these strandings for the past 25 years, including the recent mass stranding of sperm whales in Europe. Find out what this work involves, what they have found out about possible causes and what this could mean for the future of these enigmatic creatures.
