This film, shot in Sapo National Park, 2011, is the first to capture a wild pygmy hippopotamus in Liberia. In a project implemented jointly by the Forestry Development Authority of Liberia, Fauna & Flora International and ZSL, this camera trapping study, active since 2008, is starting to reveal much needed information about this enigmatic but endangered species. This information will be used to inform conservation efforts both in Sapo and in the wider region. The pygmy hippo is found in only four countries- Liberia, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire and Sierra Leone, and Sapo forms one of its last strongholds. The study has been made possible through the generous support of FFEM, Basel Zoo and BHP Billiton. Find out more about ZSL's Camera Trapping work
