ZSL wins two sustainability awards

ZSL has been awarded two accolades from The Sustainable City Awards 2013/2014, the UK’s foremost sustainability awarding body. ZSL was recognised for its work in Responsible Waste Management and Resource Consumption.

Since 2012, ZSL has made some significant achievements in sustainability. Currently working towards 99% landfill avoidance for 2016, both ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo currently recycle, reuse or compost 98% of waste.

ZSL was also recognised for its work in reducing water consumption. ZSL London Zoo has nearly halved its water consumption in 10 years, while the ZSL Green Fund helped restore old Victorian reservoirs to collect up to 150,000 litres of rainwater for the zoo to use.
