Our animals had snow much fun as their home was transformed into a winter wonderland!
Snow fell on Sunday 24 January across both ZSL London and Whipsnade Zoos and our animals joined in the flurry of excitement.
In London, footage taken by our keepers shows Western Lowland gorillas Mjukuu, Effie, Gernot and Alika exploring in Gorilla Kingdom, and two young otter pups born last year excitedly experiencing snow for the first time - while Nicky the pygmy hippo clearly preferred her warm indoor hot tub!
Over at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, pictures snapped by keepers also show the animals enjoying the wintry scenes. Our herd of Bactrian camels marching through their tundra-like paddock were pictured by keeper Alex Cliffe, while Zhiwa the greater one-horned rhino calf was caught in a childlike moment by Anusia Acus - trying to catch a snowflake in her mouth!
Amur tiger Dmitri and lynx Ruby posed perfectly for keeper Kate Speller, while James Ford captured some beautiful snowy scenes and gorgeous sky.
Although currently closed to the public, our dedicated keepers are continuing to work across our two Zoos - in all weather - to ensure each and every animal continues to receive world-class care. We're reliant on income from visitors to not only care for our animals but fund our global conservation work. Please support if you're able to - thank you so much.
