Go Wild At Home for our animals

#wildathome challenge

We’re asking you to take on ZSL’s Wild At Home challenge to support our amazing animals.

As lockdown continues and our Zoos remain closed, we urgently need support to care for our 20,000 animals and continue to protect wildlife around the world from extinction.

While we’re all spending more time at home at the moment, we can still join together, while apart, to raise some much-needed funds and do something awesome for animals. This is where we need your help!

Can you walk as far as a tiger, leap like a lemur or balance like a flamingo? Pick a #WildAtHome challenge, or get creative and come up with your own, and ask your friends and family to sponsor you for wildlife.

How to get involved

Becoming a fundraiser is simple, and fun! Just follow these steps to get going:

  1. First things first – choose your challenge! Pick from our #WildAtHome challenges below or come up with your own animal-themed fundraiser.
  2. Set up your fundraising page on JustGiving and click on the ‘start fundraising’ button.
  3. Follow the steps to set up and personalise your page. Include a photograph, share your story, and don’t forget to set a target – pages with targets raise 46% more on average.
  4. Roar loud and proud. Ask your friends, family, colleagues and neighbours to support you. Share your fundraiser on social media, WhatsApp and email – people love to hear about the good things you’re doing.
  5. Let’s get going! Put on your best animal outfit and get started with your challenge. Make sure to take pictures and tag them with #WildAtHome – we’d love to see what you get up to.

Every single penny you raise will make a real difference in supporting our animals and our worldwide conservation work.
So what are you waiting for? Let’s do this!

Fun ways to fundraise – #WildAtHome challenges

Tiger prowl

Wild tigers often have to travel over 10km a night to find food – much tougher than our usual trip to the fridge! Can you challenge yourself to walk or run as far as a tiger during your daily exercise? For younger children, you could try walking this distance over a week.

Want to make it tougher? Habitat loss in some areas means that Sumatran tigers have to walk 30km for a meal. Walk or run for 30km and show your support for tigers.

Tiger

You can even order a tiger headband and tail from our online shop to wear during your challenge.
The money you raise could help feed the tigers in our Zoos or support our work protecting tigers in the wild.

Penguin waddle

Dress in your best penguin costume (or just something black and white!) and waddle your way around your daily walk.

Every £50 raised could feed all of our penguins for a day!

Walk for Whipsnade

We are missing you at our Zoos and can’t wait to welcome you back when it’s safe to do so. While you can’t visit ZSL Whipsnade Zoo at the moment, you can support us by Walking for Whipsnade with a sponsored 2.5 mile walk - the same distance as a walk around the Zoo!

Leap like a lemur

Lemurs love to leap! They can easily jump six-times their own body length. Try swapping walking for leaping, and channel your inner lemur for the day.
Get the lemur look for your challenge with our lemur headband and tail.

Pose like a flamingo

Flamingos stand on one leg for hours at a time – they even sleep that way! Can you balance like a flamingo? Challenge yourself to stand on one leg for one minute every hour – our flamingos make it look easy but it’s harder than you think…

Want to make it tougher? How about standing on one leg for a few hours across one week?

Eat like a gorilla!

Challenge yourself to go vegan for a week, just like our gorillas. They love to eat fruits, leaves, seeds and stems. But we’re sure that you can come up with some more creative meals!

Every £150 raised could feed all of the primates at ZSL London Zoo for a week.
