Let's go Around the World in 30 Days!

Around the World in 30 Days

We need your help for our new challenge, Around the World in 30 Days! From cheetahs in Africa to hazel dormice in Britain, species across the world are in danger of going extinct, unless we act now.

Together, we want to walk, run, wheel and cycle 'Around the World' this June - that's 40,075km - to raise money to help us continue our worldwide conservation work. How you achieve your distance is entirely up to you; you can do it all in one day or cover smaller distances on a daily basis. This challenge is for everyone, whether you’re taking daily walks as a family or looking to step out of your comfort zone and start long distance running.

You can take part wherever you like - why not include a walk around London or Whipsnade Zoo? Most people walk around 5km around the Zoo seeing our animals, so every visit could make a difference! Sign up to take part today, add your distance walked around the Zoo, or wherever you are, to our global tracker during June and help us get Around the World in 30 Days.

Together, let's take strides to end wildlife extinction.

Keep track of our progress

ZSL conservationist in Nepal

As we collectively travel around the world, our progress will unlock stories of conservation in the countries that we pass through.

Check this page in June to see our progress across the globe, and discover amazing heart-warming stories of how conservation is making a difference in some of the world's most important habitats.

Our goal, your challenge

While our shared goal is covering 40,075 in 30 days, how you achieve your distance is entirely up to you. You can run, walk, cycle or wheel in any location you like. You can do it all in one day or cover smaller distances on a daily basis.

Set a goal that will challenge and excite you. If you’re stuck for ideas, why not take inspiration from the animal kingdom?

2km a day for hedgehogs in the UK

Hedgehog

Hedgehogs roam an average distance of 2km on a single night. Show your support for hedgehogs by walking 2km a day, or 60km in total during June.

Hedgehogs in the UK have experienced a dramatic decline over the last 20 years. ZSL is working to halt this decline, by identifying hedgehog populations, investigating the key threats hedgehogs face and supporting conservation management strategies for their protection. Find our more about our work protecting hedgehogs in the UK.

5km a day for elephants in Africa

Elephants

Elephants need to eat up to 150kg of food a day and have around 150,000 muscles in their trunks! Walk 150km in June, or 5km a day, to show your support for African elephants.

African elephants face serious threats, causing their numbers to fall rapidly in many parts of Africa. Conflict with people, heavy targeting by poachers and loss and fragmentation of habitat are significant issues for the survival of this species. ZSL is working to address these threats by training park management teams and eco-guards, providing technical support to implement ‘PoacherCams’ and helping to improve law enforcement against poaching. 10km a day for tigers in Nepal

Tiger

Wild tigers often have to travel over 10km a night to find food. Walk or run 10km a day, or 300km in total during June, to show your support for tigers.

There are just 2,500 wild Bengal tigers left globally; most in India, and around 235 in Nepal. ZSL is working to protect tigers in the Terai Arc Landscape: a narrow strip of plains, forest and lowland hills, linking Nepal and northern India. Here we are protecting core tiger breeding areas and working with communities to combat poaching. Find out more about our work protecting Bengal tigers in Nepal.
