What to expect on the day

This experience begins with a health and safety briefing, after getting kitted out in your keeper for a day outfit, you will find out from your host zoo keeper which animals you will be helping to look after for the day over breakfast. Keeper for a Day duties do vary, but a typical experience will start with you helping to muck out some animals in the morning, preparing enrichment, feeding various species and really getting to understand what our keepers do on a day to day basis. You will enjoy a hearty Zoo keepers lunch so no need to bring any food with you, if you have visitors in the zoo they are welcome to join you for lunch!

What we’ve done to keep you COVID safe on our experience…

Our Keeper for a Day experience has been adapted to ensure that you don’t miss out on our exciting animal interactions whilst keeping both you and our animals safe. Your experiece will be shared by a maximum of five participants to ensure that we can socially distance throughout the experience and get plenty of time with each of our animals! We also offer hand sanitiser throughout the experience. We ask that you bring your own masks to wear, as we will be entering indoor areas. Other PPE such as gloves will be available for participants where they are appropriate. If you are exempt from wearing a mask, please contact us by emailing experienceenquiries@zsl.org
