The Institute of Zoology, based at Regent’s Park, London, is the research arm of the Zoological Society of London.
We would like to appoint an experienced Research Technician for 2 years (fixed-term and full-time) to join a research group investigating the impact of climate change and anthropogenic activities on desert ecosystems. This research group supports ZSL’s efforts to protect endangered ecosystems, and the people that depends on them, against global environmental change by (a) establishing new remote sensing methodologies to monitor the status and trends in, and threats to, desert biodiversity; (b) assessing the likely impacts of climate change on the provisioning of key ecosystem services; (c) informing management actions in relevant protected areas.
The successful candidate will provide technical support for the project and be responsible for a) sourcing, manipulating and analysing satellite imagery; b) organizing, georeferencing, harmonizing and maintaining databases; c) digitizing relevant information and imagery d) helping develop new parameters for the aims described above.
GIS, coding (experience in R preferred), familiarity with satellite remote sensing products, and experience with satellite data analyses are required; experience with global climate products and ecosystem services mapping would be advantageous. The position is based at the Institute of Zoology and the successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. Nathalie Pettorelli.
Candidates should have at least a MSc or equivalent in geography/remote sensing, excellent skills in GIS and satellite remote sensing analyses and preferably some professional experience in applied remote sensing.
