Mangrove Conservation Biologist
Conservation Programmes, Zoological Society of London
Full-time, 2 year contract
Salary range - £28,408 - £36,703 (experience dependent) including London Weighting
The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats.
ZSL is looking to recruit a dynamic individual in an exciting new position as Mangrove Conservation Biologist. This position sits within the Marine and Freshwater team and reports to the Head of Global Conservation Programmes. The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding our mangrove conservation project portfolio across ZSL hub country sites, leading and/or support publication of mangrove science and conservation information (from journal papers to training materials), supporting the IUCN Mangrove Specialist Group, increasing the global profile of mangroves, particularly in the policy arena, and helping solidify our funding base for mangrove research and conservation.
The job holder will work closely with ZSL’s mangrove conservation and science team in the Philippines, with ZSL Country Managers in mangrove range states and with relevant researchers within the Institute of Zoology. This job would suit someone with a strong track record in conservation science and practical experience in mangroves. It is anticipated that the post-holder will have a higher degree in an appropriate subject and a scientific publication record that includes mangroves.
The successful candidate will be independently driven and show initiative; confident in verbal and written communications; excellent inter-personal skills; numerate; and have good time management and organisational skills. They should have a proven track record in grant and report writing.
This position is initially a 2 year contract and will be based in the Conservation Programmes office in London, with time overseas in relevant ZSL hub countries.
