Whipsnade Art Society Sketching Day Workshop
27 Jul 2013 – All Day
Behind the scenes sketching day with Stephen Perry (13th September)
Wildlife artist Stephen Perry has been a keeper at various collections for twelve years, specialising in primates. For five years he has worked on the Northern section at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, often creating beautiful drawings of the animals in his care.
On this special day for Whipsnade Art Society members, Steve will lead you and a small group of others on a tour of some of the Whipsnade animals, with plenty of time for discussion, sketching and taking photographs to work from later. The day will begin at 9.30am in the Griffin function room. You will visit various residents such as the chimps, ring-tailed lemurs, bison, lynx and reindeer, gathering inspiration as you go.
Following a break for lunch (when you might eat a picnic in the beautiful surroundings of the zoo or buy a meal in the Wild Bite Café), the group will meet up again in the Griffin room. Settle down for an informal afternoon working on individual pieces with support and advice from Steve and other members of the group who will demonstrate and advise on different techniques. Photographs and biofacts will be available for reference and the day will end at 5 o'clock.
Participants should bring a sketch pad and their preferred sketching media. Limited materials will be available on the day.
This inspiring day costs £50 per adult and £30 for under-16s, who must be accompanied by a paying adult. Numbers are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
