The visit should be good fun for everyone (adults and children)
Feeling miserable, nervous or stressed does not help learning, whether it is the children or the adults who feel that way. We know that leading a trip can be a very stressful experience, so we aim to help you prepare for the visit as well as enjoy the day itself.
We provide a
schools' information pack (11.8 MB) including guidance on risk assessment to help you to carry out your own.
We encourage you to come to the zoo on your own before bringing the class. This is a good opportunity to get to know what's here - the animals, facilities, demonstrations, etc. - to plan your visit and to carry out your own risk assessment.
All class teachers can claim a free pre-visit (one ticket is allocated per class of 30 once a booking has been made): simply provide your school name and date of visit on arrival at the gate. Having this time to explore on your own will give you a feel for the size and layout of the zoo so that things run smoothly when you bring your class. Pre-visits cannot be carried out during bank holiday weekends.
Goody bags and ice creams can be ordered in advance for collection on the day you bring your class. More information on goody bags is available here.
