Turkeys get their treats at zoo!
Monday 14 December 2009
While lemurs unwrap a tasty Christmas gift too.
At ZSL Whipsnade Zoo this Christmas the turkeys form part of the celebrations - but instead of being the feast, this is one place where we treat them!
The Lavender Hill Mob, as the three turkeys at Whipsnade are comically known after their "gang" leader Lavender, are renowned as harmless but slightly sinister looking inhabitants of the farm. Free roaming and nosy, the birds make visitors jump when they encircle them and gobble loudly!
They will be receiving a traditional Christmas tree decorated with their favourite treats - including sprouts, biscuits and rusks.
Meanwhile the loveable lemurs can tuck into a fruity feast of gift-wrapped packages and the bachelor group can mess around with festive pine cones on their island home.
These enriching gifts can be made by young visitors to the zoo who take part in the free Christmas at Whipsnade activities, running throughout the school holidays at the zoo.
