Esther came to the zoo on regular visits when she was about five years old. She had moved out to Hertfordshire from London during the Second World War with her family and lived close to the zoo.
She remembered riding on a camel and seeing lots of open space and antelopes. Esther met one of the zoo’s longest serving keepers, Andrew White, who chatted to Esther about how the zoo has changed over the years.
During her visit she saw lots of things which jogged her memory, the camels and the penguins and a few new things such as the elephant display Elephantastic.
Esther’s visit was broadcast on the One Show, BBC 1 at 7pm, 9th June.
