Take a walk on the wild side

Monday 4 July 2005

Don’t be a couch potato, come down to ZSL Whipsnade Zoo and join in on one of our daily walks with some of the Children’s Farm animals

Bactrian Camel

Stride out with a llama, take a stroll with a camel or even play follow my leader with a pygmy goat.

With 600 acres of stunning Bedfordshire countryside and over 250 species of wild animals to take your mind off monotonous exercise, what better way to tick off your 10,000 steps!

Daily walks are a great form of enrichment for our Children’s Farm animals as they provide them with regular changes in environment, giving them new and interesting things to see, smell and touch.

  • The walks improve the fitness of the animals and enable the keepers to carry out daily inspection of the animal’s mobility and condition.
  • The departure time and route taken varies daily and details can be found on the Children’s Farm noticeboard.
  • A full circuit of the park is approximately 2 miles.
  • 9 per cent of deaths from coronary heart disease in the UK could be avoided if people who are currently sedentary or have a light level of physical activity increased their activity to a moderate level. (British Heart Foundation).
