Ruff and ready

Keepers are certainly seeing red at Whipsnade Wild Animal Park with the arrival of two new red ruffed lemurs

red ruffed lemurs

Our new arrivals, Cid and Ella, are part of Whipsnade's breeding programme to help protect this critically endangered Madagascan primate (varecia variegate ruber).

The courting couple have already settled in well on the island next to the red pandas and are showing themselves to have very different personalities.

Cid is very gregarious and will do anything for a handful of raisins and Ella, ever the demure dame, is quite shy and reserved.

Let's hope that love blossoms and it will not be too long before we hear the patter of tiny red paws!
