Hop aboard 'Excelsior' or 'Hector' for a trip around the Park this summer
Between April and October, visitors can take a whimsical trip around the park on one of our historical trains.
'Excelsior' is our traditional blue steam train and was built in 1908. It pulls five open-sided carriages that seat 125 people and is actually built on the actual wagons 'Excelsior' used to pull on the original steam railways in the area.
All aboard Hector! 'Hector' is a green, black and red diesel engine that pulls four carriages and can hold 100 people.
Our trains start their daily trips each afternoon but the drivers and engineers take three to three and half hours to get prepare the engines beforehand. 'Excelsior' runs on coal and water to create the steam needed to power the engine.
On your 15 minute trip you will see the backyards of the elephant enclosure, go through the Asian rhinos section, across the bridge, past eight types of deer before starting the climb back to the station.
