Dom the sealion makes a splash

Tuesday 29 April 2008

Dom the sealion is growing up fast, he has already started training with his family and is making a splash in the daily shows.

Now ten months old and weighing 54kg’s he’s a lively addition to our group of sealions and a favourite with visitors.

Dom has learnt quickly and is now able, on command, to lay down and also to display his flippers. This is vital for his daily health checks, enabling the keepers to give him a thorough check up easily and without stress.

Dom has also started eating solids, dining on his first fish on Boxing day, although he still suckles milk from his mum, Salt. Sealion pups can suckle for up to twelve months after birth, although Salt may have something to say about that, now he is dining on fish.

He is still a pup at heart and can only be well behaved for a while, come and see him playing in the pool with his family each day at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.

Showtimes

The show runs twice during the week and 3 times at the weekends.
