“Deadly” star comes to Zoo to host live show

Zoologist and children’s TV presenter Steve Backshall rolled up at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo on Saturday where his latest show, Live ‘n’ Deadly was recorded live.
The show featured several animals from the zoo, including the Asian elephants who provided a memorable walk past the set, which was played out at the start of the show.
The zoo’s Harris Hawk Tulsa also proved himself a star by becoming the first bird in the series to fly successfully and pick up the bait held by Steve.
Other animal stars were the lemurs who climbed all over crew and presenters as well as creepy favourites the praying mantis and hissing cockroaches.
The show, co-hosted by children’s tv presenter Naomi Wilkinson, included an invited audience of youngsters from Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard.
Whipsnade was the third location for the show, which goes out weekly on BBC2 from 9am until late November. The show is a follow-up to the highly successful Deadly 60 series in which Steve Backshall travels the world in search of the deadliest creatures on earth.
ZSL Whipsnade Zoo Press Officer Christine Drabwell said: “This was a great show to be involved with and Steve got on very well with our keepers as he can talk for hours about animals!”
