It’s a big 80th birthday at Whipsnade!
Friday 3 June 2011
Fun for all the family begins at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo as we invite visitors to join us in celebrating our big 80th birthday.
Whipsnade first opened its gates on 23rd May 1931 as Europe’s first open zoo and is celebrated today as a much-respected and world renowned conservation and breeding centre.
Come and join us to celebrate 80 years of Whipsnade on a big day out with lots of daily activities with some of our most popular animals!
The chimps will be jumping up and down for a taste of scrumptious kiwi, while the hippos hit the water to catch the cabbages and fruit they love. Fly across continents in the free-flying bird displays and catch the peckish penguins at feeding time. All of these great enrichment activities happen every day, accompanied by talks from the zoo’s own explainers.
Why not check out Whipsnade’s upcoming events including Zoo Nights , the ultimate night safari where you can find out what the animals really get up to after dark!
To mark the zoo’s historic past, a series of beautiful heritage panels at significant locations around the zoo will form a permanent display of the zoo’s history and landmarks.
Children can sample a bit of Whipsnade’s past in the Activity Room in the Discovery Centre where dressing up props will transform them into keepers and the memorabilia table will offer lots of fun glimpses at zoo life down the ages.
All this plus the perennial favourites of the Sealion Splash, the Jumbo Express steam train and Asian elephant display Elephantastic! A day out at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo has just got bigger than ever.
Plan your ZSL Whipsnade Zoo big day out.
