Animal facts
Red pandas look similar to their relatives, the racoons. Deforestation is a major cause of their decline and in the past it has been hunted to provide fur for caps, and tails for dusters. Some have been captured for the pet trade. Now the red panda is protected throughout most of its range and international breeding programmes have been set up in zoos.
