Animal facts

There are many species of 'poison frog' in the New world tropics. They are brightly coloured to warn predators of their toxic skin secretions. A few species are used by local rainforest tribes to supply poison for their blow gun darts.

Most 'posion frogs', including this species, have much less potent toxin. Their toxin will just numb a predator's mouth.

Where they live

On Pacific coast of Central America from southern Costa Rica to northern Columbia and on to Caribbean coast from southern Nicaragua to Columbia.

Habitat

Tropical rainforest below 800 meters

Ants, termites and other small insects and spiders
