Greater one horned rhino

Test your friends and family to see how knowledgeable they are about this amazing species. Here's some fun facts to get the ball rolling.

  • When male Asian rhinos are fully grown which is about 8-10 years old they can weigh as much as 2,100 kg and females about 1,600 kg
  • The rhinos skin is about 4cm thick (show example) fortunately our rhinos don’t even feel it and the insects poison wont go through the skin!!
  • Youngsters will stay with their mother for around 2 years
  • Unfortunately Asian rhinos are critically endangered in the wild. There are thought to be around 2400 in the world at the moment, so breeding programs are essential.
  • Asian rhinos live in very boggy grass environments. This makes them different to African rhinos because they have a much more grass based diet.
