Gabrielle Walker's new book, An Ocean of Air - A Natural History of the Atmosphere, is a revelatory history of how man came to understand the true elixir of life - air. In this special talk in association with the Royal Institution of Great Britain, Gabrielle will illuminate this most extraordinary and yet most underrated substance on earth: air.
Thin air miraculously transforms into food; our atmosphere soaks up flares from the sun that are more violent than a nuclear explosion; the air wraps our planet in a blanket of warmth; radio signals bounce off a layer of floating metal in the air.
Join us to hear the stories of the people who explored the ocean that is all around us: the air.
