Tigers need you! Show your support by entering our schools’ poster competition.

ZSL London Zoo has launched its new tiger exhibit, Tiger Territory . But all over the world tigers are losing their territory to habitat destruction, and being threatened by hunting.

The Zoo needs you to produce the perfect poster to tell others about the plight of the tigers to others and encourage people to take action to save them!

The most eye-catching and informative entries from each age category will be displayed/exhibited in ZSL London Zoo, and the winners for each category will receive complimentary tickets to visit the Zoo and see the exhibition. In addition the winners will receive a goody bag full of tiger gifts.

An overall winner across all age categories will also be chosen, and this person will win a trip to ZSL London Zoo for them and their class to see behind the scenes at the new tiger territory exhibit. The winner will also have an opportunity to get a close up encounter with the tigers themselves!

Education session - Terrific Tigers!

To follow up your poster work why not bring your class to ZSL London Zoo to see the tigers in their new exhibit Tiger Territory. From 15 April we will also be offering a new Key Stage 2 education session called ‘Terrific Tigers’ too!”

Prizes

For the winner of each age category:

  • The winning entry will be displayed within ZSL London Zoo and on the ZSL website

Guidelines

What to include

  • Images/drawings and text
  • Information about the threats to tigers
  • Information about how people can help save tigers
  • Why people should take action to save tigers
  • Please write your (the entrant’s) name, age, school and the teacher’s contact details (including contact name, email address and phone number) on the back of the poster.
  • To assist with selection the following sentence must be completed in no more than 50 words, and written on the back of the poster:
    “The world needs tigers because…”
  • Information about tigers and their threats and conservation can be found on the ZSL website here

Poster format

  • Maximum A2 size (portrait or landscape)
  • Must include images/drawings and text
  • Can be hand written/drawn or word processed, or both. However any pictures or photos used that are not the entrant’s own original work must be copyright free and fully acknowledged.
  • Must be entirely the entrant’s own work

Judging criteria

  • Creativity and originality
  • Presentation and ability to catch attention
  • Quality of any original drawings
  • Persuasiveness of writing
  • Accuracy of facts and figures used
  • Quality of the completed sentence

Competition terms and conditions

The ZSL schools Tiger Territory poster competition is now open, and ZSL needs you to produce the perfect poster to tell others about the plight of the tigers to others and encourage people to take action to save the tigers!

Closing date for entries is 15th March 2013

We know you’re excited, but before you enter, make sure you have read the competition terms and conditions, rules and category definitions.

Prizes and benefits

For the winner of each age category:

  • The winning entry will be displayed within ZSL London Zoo and on the ZSL website
  • 2x complimentary tickets to visit the display at the Zoo (redeemable by the date stated on the ticket)
  • A goody bag with tiger gifts for the winner

For the overall winner:

  • Free entry to ZSL London Zoo for the winner and their class (redeemable between the 15th April and 24th May. It is the winner’s responsibility to ensure that they can arrange transport to London Zoo for the visit).
  • Behind the scenes tour for the winner to see where the tigers sleep and what they eat
  • A close-up encounter with a tiger for the winner and meet a tiger keeper

About the Competition

1. The Zoological Society of London ‘s Tiger Territory Schools’ Poster Competition is a new and exciting way for young people and school to get involved with the launch of ZSL London Zoo’s Tiger Territory exhibit.
2. The competition is owned by the Zoological Society of London [ZSL], a charity dedicated to the protection of animals and their habitats.
3. The competition seeks to raise awareness of threats to tigers, tiger conservation and the work of ZSL through eye-catching posters that inform, educate and inspire,

Competition Rules

1. General
1. It is up to each entrant to ensure they have read and obeyed the competition rules set out below.
2. By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to the competition rules, and that that their entry complies with ZSL’s requirements.
3. Any entry found not to comply with the competition rules will be disqualified.
4. No refunds or allowances will be made in such instances and any prizes will be forfeited.
5. The decision of ZSL on all matters relating to the competition is final and binding. No negotiation will be considered.
6. Proof of age and/or ID may be asked to be provided by finalists.
7. Only open to residents of the UK and channel islands.

How to enter

1. The competition is open to anyone except those involved directly with the competition, employees of ZSL or competition sponsors.

What to enter

1. Each entrant may submit a maximum of one (1) poster into the competition. Posters will be sorted by age into the appropriate category based upon the age provided on the back of the poster.
2. Images submitted should be eye-catching and informative, and should include the following:
• Images/drawings and text
• Information about the threats to tigers
• Information about how people can help save tigers
• Why people should take action to save tigers
3. The entrant’s name, age, school and the teacher’s contact details (including contact name, email address and phone number) on the back of the poster.
4. To assist with selection the following sentence must be completed in no more than 50 words, and written on the back of the poster: “The world needs tigers because…”

The poster must adhere to the following format:

  • Maximum A2 size (594 x 420mm), portrait or landscape
  • Must include images/drawings and text
  • Can be hand written/drawn or word processed, or both. However any pictures or photos used that are not the entrant’s own original work must be copyright free and fully acknowledged.

What NOT to enter

1. Electronic copies of the poster.
5. Posters that have been placed within any national or international competition at the time of entry.

Judging the competition

1. ZSL will appoint a panel of judges which will include representatives of ZSL and suitably qualified photographic experts.
2. The panel will be required to agree to terms of conduct whilst ensuring the spirit of the competition is maintained throughout.
3. All entries will be judged anonymously: only title information will be relayed by ZSL during each round.
4. Awarded images in each category will comprise Winner, Runner-up and Highly Commended.
5. In the event that any single category is without a poster of sufficient merit, ZSL reserves the right to remove the category in its entirety.
6. Only category Winners will be considered for the overall grand title of Overall Winner.
7. The grand title of Overall Winner of the ZSL Tiger Territory Schools’ Poster Competition will be awarded to the single poster judged by the panel to best capture the spirit of the competition.

Competition prizes

1. Entrants who have an awarded poster will be notified in March/April.
2. As part of the prize package, all awarded posters will be:
-Winning entries will be displayed within the grounds of ZSL London Zoo.
-Featured on ZSL’s website, which is viewed by an average of 500,000 people a month.

In addition to Rule 2 above:

1. The Winner of each age category will receive two (2) complimentary tickets to ZSL London Zoo and a goody bag with tiger gifts for the winner
2. The Overall Winner will receive free entry to ZSL London Zoo for themselves and their class (redeemable between the 15th April and 24th May. It is the winner’s responsibility to ensure that they can arrange transport to London Zoo for the visit), a behind the scenes tour of the Tiger Territory exhibit for the winner and their class and a close-up encounter with a tiger for the winner and meet a tiger keeper.

Publicity

1. All entrants agree that if their entry is awarded, they will take part in related publicity and to the use of their name and likeness for the purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity of the competition and exhibition without additional compensation.

Copyright and reproduction

1. Each entry must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party.
2. For images used in the posters -.each entrant must either be the sole owner of the copyright, and any pictures or photos used that are not the entrant’s own original work must be copyright free and fully acknowledged or have secured the written permission of the copyright owner to enter the image into the competition and grants the Owners the rights detailed below.
3. The copyright in all images submitted to the competition will remain with the copyright holder who will be credited in accordance with the competition’s guidelines (eg ©photographer’s name).
4. By entering the competition, each entrant grants to ZSL a non-exclusive irrevocable licence to reproduce, publish and communicate to the public by any means and exhibit their awarded poster, copies of their awarded poster, and any portion of, or image from, their awarded poster in all media throughout the world, including but not limited to all use in the context of:
- Judging the competition.
- Display in the exhibition.
- Inclusion in ZSL magazines and/or similar.
- Inclusion within ZSL’s websites, including within interactive elements associated with the competition and/or exhibition (now known or hereafter created) available for viewing or download from ZSL’s websites.
- Inclusion in promotional, press and marketing materials associated with the competition and/or the exhibition.
- Inclusion in any merchandising associated with the competition and/or the exhibition.
- Inclusion in interactive exhibits within London and Whipsnade Zoo

Liability

1. Proof of postage is not proof of receipt by ZSL.
2. ZSL regrets that it cannot accept liability for any loss or damage of any image entered into the Competition howsoever caused nor for any other loss or damage resulting there from.
3. ZSL regrets that it cannot accept liability for the misuse of images and/or failure of any third party to comply with the Competition’s credit guidelines.
4. Non-winning posters will not be retained, stored or returned by ZSL after the names of awarded entrants are announced.

Data protection

1. The personal data of entrants will be managed by ZSL in accordance with the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998.
2. ZSL will collect personal data about entrants from their registration form and as otherwise provided in order to administer the competition and/or all associated activities.
3. ZSL will use data collected at registration to contact the entrants’ teachers about future competitions.
