Double award win for ZSL London Zoo
Monday 20 December 2010
ZSL London Zoo’s 16,000 animals are celebrating after not only scooping the prestigious ‘Best Tourism Experience’ award at the BT Visit London Awards 2010 but also achieving Gold in the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
The Visit London Awards celebrate all that is great about our capital city, and the star of the 2010 awards was ZSL London Zoo.
Crowned the winner of the prestigious ‘Best Tourism Experience’ award, ZSL London Zoo beat off tough competition from the likes of the Science Museum and The London Eye to take home the gold award. Our Zoo also won the bronze award in the ‘Best New Tourism Experience’ category for Rainforest Life and Night Life.
ZSL marketing director Rich Storton said: “Winning gold in the best tourism experience category is a fantastic achievement and proves what we have always known; that a trip to ZSL London Zoo is the capital’s number one day out.
“Our staff and volunteers work hard to make sure all aspects of Zoo visits are enjoyable; from the exhibits and cafes to the welcome we give to visitors and our members."
Gold for Green
The Green Tourism Business Scheme assesses establishments against a rigorous set of criteria, ensuring issues such as energy and water efficiency, waste management and biodiversity are addressed.
ZSL’s Sophie Townsend said “Our assessor was particularly impressed with the new food waste collection by our Catering department, which has significantly reduced our waste to landfill. The Zoo’s conservation work and biodiversity educational focus was also specifically commended.
Our new plaque should arrive very soon so do keep an eye out for it at the main gate!”
