If you love character, our Zaire has got it in bags – which is why we’re nominating her for London’s Hero this year!

Zaire, 35, arrived at ZSL London Zoo in 1984 from Jersey Zoo and has spent the last 25 years bringing a touch of class to the gorilla enclosure and delighting more than 15m visitors.
With excellent table manners (for a gorilla) and a penchant for people’s colourful shoes, Zaire is without a doubt one of the Zoo’s most wonderful characters. She is also the matriarch of the gorilla group, keeping the other two ladies in order!
When a new mate arrives for the group later this year, we know Zaire will help him feel at home straight away!
We think she’s so fab that we’re nominating her as a London Hero in Visit London’s People’s Choice awards this year.
