Meerkats Roll Over for Beethoven at ZSL London Zoo
Wednesday 2 November 2011
The meerkats at ZSL London Zoo will be played classical music to distract them from the big bangs of Bonfire Night on Saturday.
Zookeepers will play soothing tunes to the small mammals in a bid to keep them calm during the fireworks. The group of 11 are soon to become fans of Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin when zookeepers press play on November 5th.
Zookeeper Jim Mackie says: “Just like many animals, meerkats can get nervous when they hear the big bangs.
“Because Bonfire Night falls on a Saturday this year we are expecting there to be a lot of noise. The calming classical music will help to keep them feeling relaxed.”
Have you met our merry meerkat family yet at ZSL London Zoo? Find them in our Happy Families exhibit ...alongside a 'troup' of lemurs and a 'romp' of otters - they just love to live in their furry families!
