Meerkat Easter parade at ZSL London Zoo
Sunday 3 April 2011
It seems it’s not only children who like Easter eggs - ZSL London Zoo’s meerkats have had a cracking time eating theirs.
Keepers gave the eight-strong meerkat group a giant Easter egg specially filled with meal worms as part of the animals enrichment programme.
And they weren’t the only lucky animal to get an Easter treat – the Zoo’s five coatis also received a piñata Easter bunny filled with raisins and meal worms inside.
Zookeeper Caroline Westlake says: “Not only does the act of cracking open the eggs give the meerkats good enrichment but the hard-boiled eggs are a tasty and healthy treat.
“The coatis really enjoyed their Easter bunny piñata too - I think all the animals have had an egg-cellent time this morning!”
