Hippo showers

Bug and Nicola, our two pygmy hippos, are much happier since their new showers were installed. Their skin gets very dry and cracked during the cold winter months and the only way to make it better is to keep their skin wet and lubricated.

However, over the years their keepers have noticed that the hippos won't swim in their outside pool if the temperature reaches below 58 degrees.

To solve the problem, our hippos now have the luxury of indoor showers. They are laser-activated so all the hippos have to do is walk up to them and the shower water starts flowing.

Keeper Tracy Lee says, "The hippos love their showers and their skin is now beautifully smooth and moist, despite the cold weather!"
