It was love at first sight for ZSL’s new female gorilla Jookie, short for Mjukuu, and silverback Bobby. So much so that the Gorilla Kingdom exhibit has become something of a love island.

Jookie, nine, has joined the 25-year-old male gorilla and two females Effie, 15, and Zaire, 33, from a group of eleven gorillas at another zoo.

The pair have become inseparable and their blossoming romance has got their keepers’ hopes up, as the last time a gorilla was born at the zoo was 21 years ago.
