Game, set and match for ZSL London Zoo's squirrel monkeys

It was game, set and match for the Zoo’s cheeky monkeys as ZSL London Zoo’s squirrel monkeys enjoyed strawberry treats for Wimbledon

As the excitement built for the Wimbledon finals, ZSL London Zoo’s squirrel monkeys joined in the fun by tucking into a hamper of strawberries.

Hidden amongst a bed of straw, the summer berries proved a tempting treat for the tiny South American monkeys who had to delve in and dig out the juicy fruits.

Zookeeper Amy Heath said: “The squirrel monkeys had an ace time devouring their way through the picnic hamper of strawberries and ended up with jam all over their fingers and faces – they thought they’d won the Grand Slam!

“We give the monkeys a variety of treats and present their food in lots of different ways to stimulate their curiosity and encourage their natural behaviours, like foraging for food.”

Meet the Monkeys is open all year round at ZSL London Zoo and is a completely immersive experience with no barriers between visitors and the squirrel monkeys.
