In an attempt to keep the notoriously lazy lions awake for ZSL London Zoo’s late-night event the keepers are adding some zing to their den.

Spices are used as part of the Asian lion’s regular enrichment to stimulate their natural curiosity.

Keepers scent areas of their enclosure or their food to encourage the lions to get sniffing and re-mark their territory.

Along with catnip, a trail of ginger, a spice known to stimulate their interest, and chunks of meat was laid around their enclosure.

Within moments Lucifer and Abi were hot on the trail, sniffing, licking and munching their way around.
