Are you scared of spiders?
Monday 27 April 2009
If you’ve ever found yourself in a tricky situation because an eight legged creature has crossed your path, then it’s time to embark on the Friendly Spider Programme.
With spring upon us, many spiders are becoming more active whilst others will soon be hatching from their eggs. If the thought alone makes you shudder, it’s the perfect time to spend an afternoon at ZSL London Zoo under the expert care of hypnotist John Clifford and Head keeper of BUGS Dave Clarke, to help you to overcome your phobia.
Dave Clarke says, 'The Friendly Spider Programme is a great course for anyone with a fear of spiders. Every year we help more and more people get to conquer their phobias, and every year we receive really positive feedback from those who are pleasantly shocked by how much it changes their lives'.
One participant was amazed when she found herself calm and collected when faced with a house spider, 'I saw a small spider in my bathroom and it just didn’t bother me, which was unthinkable a couple of years ago. I was able to move it myself without panicking. My husband says it’s transformed our lives.'
With a success rate of more than 80 per cent, the Friendly Spider Programme has helped more than 2,000 people to face their fears head on. In just one afternoon, the experts at ZSL will leave you with a better understanding of the world of spiders, and by the end of the session you’ll be confident enough to catch house spiders and even meet Polly, one of ZSL’s giant red-kneed spiders.
The first session of the year has been a fantastic success and there are five more dates available for 2009.
