Annual Stocktake at ZSL London Zoo

Zookeepers are digging out their clipboards as they prepare to count every animal at ZSL London Zoo’s annual stocktake.
Home to more than 17,500 animals, ZSL London Zoo’s keepers have begun the task of making a note of every invertebrate, bird, fish, mammal, reptile, and amphibian.
This year saw the exciting births of a black and white colobus monkey, and a rare white-naped mangabey, which will be added to the Zoo’s records.
With the arrival of two critically endangered Sumatran tigers, who will be moving into the brand new Tiger Territory in 2013 , plus an army of waxy tree frogs and two new Galapagos tortoises, it’s been an eventful year at the Zoo.
The compulsory count is required as part of ZSL London Zoo’s zoo license, and all of the information is logged into the International Species Information System (ISIS), where it’s used to manage the international breeding programmes for endangered animals.
