Animals keep cool in the sun at ZSL London Zoo
Wednesday 3 August 2011
The hot weather isn't just getting zoo visitors flustered! Keepers at ZSL London Zoo are always finding ways of helping keep the animals cool from iced drinks to misters on Penguin Beach.
Most people strip down to their shorts during the hot weather but as this video shows the penguins at ZSL London Zoo are taking their feathered coats off!
As temperatures soar across the country the 70 penguins who live at the Zoo’s Penguin Beach exhibit are keeping themselves cool by standing in the exhibit’s cooling misters while they moult.
And just like us, ZSL London Zoo’s group of western lowland gorillas need to keep hydrated too – this morning the Zoo’s 11-year-old silverback Kesho took a break from his beach ball and enjoyed a bottle of his favourite tipple: fruit tea.
If you’re a man with a beard you’re probably feeling rather hot today so spare a thought for ZSL London Zoo’s nine bearded pigs! Zookeepers treated the pigs to their own shower this morning to cool down the furry hogs down.
