ZSL London Zoo's penguins

The Penguin Pool is located in the central hub of ZSL London Zoo on Barclay Court and is home to two species of penguin.

South African Black Footed Penguin
The first are Blackfooted Penguins which live on the beaches and coasts off of South Africa and Namibia. Sharing their home are the Rockhopper Penguins, these come from the rocky coasts of the sub-Antarctic islands and get their name from their great ability to hop over rocks!

There is a Peckish Penguins feed which is one of the most popular events on ZSL London Zoo’s daily schedule and the penguins all make sure that they are lined up and waiting when it comes to feeding time.

A new home
The penguins moved to their new home from the famous art deco Lubetkin pool. The penguin pool provides the penguins with lots of space to explore; private areas where they can be off show if they feel like it and a great specially designed pool.

As the zoological world has developed so have the requirements for animal care and in turn enclosures have developed to best meet the environmental needs of the species rather than simply serve the viewing requirements of the public.
