Meet some of the Gorillas who live at ZSL London Zoo

Bobby Junior

Bobby came to ZSL London Zoo in 2003 from Rome Zoo. He had been rescued in the late 1980s from a circus.

Bobby was born in the wild and had been illegally captured for the circus as a baby in about 1983. The fact that he was wild-born makes him important for breeding purposes due to his excellent genetics. Desktop Gorilla move - beat chest

Bobby is a very gentle animal. It takes him a while to get to know any new keepers that come in but after about three of four months he welcomes them with mutual grooming sessions!

Zaire was born in Jersey Zoo, and came to ZSL London Zoo in 1984. She is a playful, mischievous character.

Zaire is known for sometimes doing precisely the opposite of what the keepers want. If they want to clean in a particular area, she’ll sit there firmly and resolutely. If they want to open the sliding door between sections of the enclosure, she’ll put her hand on it.
