Animal facts

Hissing cockroaches hiss to fend off an attacker. Males will also hiss during courtship and whilst defending their territory. The hissing sound is made by air being passed through holes (spiracles) in the side of the body. The males are slightly bigger and have two horns on top of their thorax which they use to fight other males.
