Animal facts

The European grey wolf is a highly social animal, living in packs of up to 20 wolves. When an individual howls, other pack members usually join in and the chorus can be heard over distances as great as 10km. Howling enables them to locate each other and to warn off other wolf packs.

Where they live

Isolated regions in Northern and Eastern Europe. A small population in Portugal.

Habitat

Arctic tundra, mountains and forests.

What they eat

Deer, musk-oxen and other herbivores, carrion and berries.
